Man in court for allegedly selling late father’s property without family’s consent

A 42-year-old man, Ige Akingbade, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly selling his late father’s property, valued at N9 million, without the consent of other family members.

The defendant, a surveyor, who resides at 16, Kaka St., Epe, Lagos, is being charged with conspiracy, stealing, threat to life and causing breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed in January at Ayetoro area of Epe, Lagos.

Akeem said that the defendant and others, now at large, conspired and sold the property of the late Chief Kamorudeen Akingbade.

Akeem said that the property sold by the defendant included: a tug boat, valued at N4 million and gold jewellery, valued at N5 million, without the consent of other family members.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant threatened to kill the head of the family, Alhaja Olabisi Akingbade.

The offences, according to him, contravene Sections 56, 168, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one surety in like sum.

Osunsanmi, thereafter, adjourned the case till Sept. 28 for mention. (
