The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara Command, has vowed to step up its enforcement against haulage trucks ferrying of passengers.
This is contained in a statement issued in Ilorin on Friday by the Public Education Officer, Kwara Sector Command, SRC Basambo Olayinka-Busari.
The statement said the Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Fredrick Ogidan, made the vow in Ilorin on Thursday during his second quarter visit to FRSC unit command under his watch.
The statement said Ogidan also used the opportunity to warn officers against any form of corruption, telling them to imbibe high level of discipline and professionalism.
“Trucks carrying passengers on top of goods are causing more harm. Many lives have been lost to this dangerous act.
“We need to step up efforts and ensure that there’s no room for this again. Truck drivers must be closely watched and checked to curb this stupid behavior.
“You must be disciplined and shun any form of corruption. Do not extort any motorist no matter the situation,” he warned.
The statement said Ogidan further advised FRSC staffs to obey the Corps Marshal’s directive and warned that any staff found wanting would face the consequence.
According to the statement, the commands visited on Thursday were Ilorin, Olooru, Bode Sadu and Jeba Unit Commands.
It stated that Ogidan also visited Idofian, Offa, Erin Ile, Omuaran and Odo-Owa Unit Commands respectively in the bid to deliver the FRSC Corps Mashal’s directive on safer roads.
The statement said the Sector Commander also used the opportunity to pay a condolence visit to the family of Elerin of Erin Ile, who joined his ancestors few days ago
